Ebay has appointed a new A/NZ VP and managing director following the departure of former and chief and one-time CMO, Tim Mackinnon, to Providoor.

David Ramadge, who has been with eBay locally for nearly four years as senior director of product and shipping, has been promoted to vice-president and managing director for Australia and New Zealand. Ramadge also boasts of nearly 10 years’ experience in Silicon Valley, where he helped large technology companies as well as startups including Google, Neoglyphic Entertainment and Milo.com. While in the US, he worked for eBay as director of local commerce then director of entrepreneurship and venture outreach.

In a statement, eBay senior VP of Asia-Pacific, Joo Man Park, said Ramadge is tasked with taking the eBay Australia business to the next level.

“Dave’s leadership style is authentic, down to earth, positive and he puts his people first,” Man Par stated. “With his relationships across our global organisation, focus on creating great experiences and talent for motivating teams, he is the right leader to lead the business through the next phase of the strategy.

“Dave has been on the Australian leadership team for four years and has unparalleled knowledge and passion for eBay having led product, eBay Plus, shipping, payments, trust, consumer selling and luxury verticals.”

Ramadge is just as excited about growing the platform and noted eBay Australia’s long and special history.

“I am humbled and excited to lead our marketplace in its next phase. To our 40,000 business sellers, countless consumer sellers and millions of regular buyers I can say we will be working tirelessly to keep growing your business and improving your experience on eBay,” he said.

Ramadge succeeds MacKinnon, who held the role of MD since September 2017 and spent 10 years with the digital retail marketplace. This included nearly a year as chief marketing officer, as well as more than three years as head then director of merchant solutions and development.

In a LinkedIn post, Mackinnon confirmed he is now joining Australian restaurant marketplace, Providoor, as its chief executive officer.

“I feel grateful to have led eBay Australia and worked for 10 years on behalf of 40,000 Aussie retailers, with a pretty special team [past and present] in a pretty special culture,” Mackinnon commented.

“I love the way good food elevates conversation and brings people together. Shane Delia created Providoor during lockdown to give people access to great food and to help restaurants expand their venue into people’s homes. In recent weeks, as lockdown has ended, thousands of people are reuniting with friends and family and using Providoor to entertain in their home.

“I've been advising Providoor this year and feel grateful Shane has entrusted me to work with him and his amazing team to build Providoor as a global brand and habit. I feel as daunted as I did over four years when I was asked to lead eBay and make sure it remained the market leader. But I know it’s going to be exciting too.”

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
