Domain brings back CMO role

CommSec GM business strategy and marketing to join the property marketplace as marketing chief

Domain has recruited CommSec’s general manager of business strategy and marketing as its new chief marketing officer.

Rebecca Darley will join the property marketplace from 7 February 2022 and is responsible for consumer and trade marketing, creative, digital, content, publishing, communications and PR. The appointment comes more than two years after Domain scrapped the CMO role, instead appointing Jason Chuck as consumer chief to oversee marketing, audience and content teams. Chuck left Domain in September and is now chief commercial officer of disability support employment platform, Hireup.

Darley joins from CommSec, where she’s spent nearly two years. Prior to this, she headed up marketing, planning and performance at St George Bank. Her 20-year career in marketing also includes a similar position at Westpac Group between 2015 and 2018, as well as marketing and communications roles at Ikea, Vodafone, Aussie and Sony.

Darley said she was thrilled to be joining Domain at a time of significant digital innovation and growth.

“Harnessing data, innovation and some of the most exceptional talent in the industry to deliver value for the 9.6 million Australians that rely on Domain to inspire confidence for all of life’s property decisions creates new and exciting opportunities to take Domain’s presence in the market to the next level,” she said.

Domain CEO and managing director, Jason Pellegrino, said the re-introduction of the CMO role came off recognition of the role marketing plays in driving growth. The company highlighted its spring advertising campaign, The Block integration and multi-channel campaign efforts as showcasing the strength of the marketing function.

“The role of chief marketing officer reflects the strategic importance and growth potential of our unique offerings like off market listings and app features, ensuring Domain continues to deliver value and do more for our customers at every stage of their property journey, and is another step forward in our marketplace model, where our solutions work better together,” Pellegrino said. “I look forward to working with Rebecca and the Domain marketing team to bring these to life for consumers, agents and organisations.”

ASX-listed Domain reported a 9.7 per cent increase in revenues for the year to 30 June 2021 to $289.6 million.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
